Magnesium and magnesium alloys
The processing of magnesium forging alloys has been a fixed element of OTTO FUCHS' production programme for many decades.
For extremely light constructions, the excellent thermoformability of magnesium alloys in drop forge parts and extrusion press products offer a whole range of cost-efficient design options.
Magnesium has an extremely low density and is the lightest of all construction materials. Components made of magnesium alloys are especially used in applications, where every gram counts, but where there is virtually no room for compromise in terms of capacity, e.g. in the aerospace industry.
The current 12 magnesium alloys offered by OTTO FUCHS have an extraordinarily high degree of purity and are especially resistant to corrosion.
The most important properties of magnesium forging alloys are:
- a low specific weight
- good thermoformability
- outstanding machinability
- no internal tensions
In order to improve resistance to corrosion, we are able to manufacture alloys with a high degree of purity using special casting technology, i.e. alloys produced with a minimum Fe and Ni content.
See our material information sheet 'Magnesium' for further details of our magnesium alloys..
